Returning for the seventh year, the Corporate Counsel Summit 2025 offers Australia’s in-house counsel practical tools and strategies for career and business success.

The premier one-day event, hosted by Lawyers Weekly with principal partners Lawyers on Demand (LOD) and Consilio, will unite hundreds of in-house counsel to hear from the nation’s leading legal minds.

Shannon Finch, group general counsel and group executive at Westpac Group, joins an impressive speaker line-up that already includes Rama Lingard, head of legal, Australasia at Mastercard; Cameron Loughlin, legal director, ANZ at Uber; and Stuart Gregor, co-founder at Four Pillars Gin.

Since joining Westpac in 2021, Finch has led the bank’s global legal operations, bringing decades of legal expertise and a commitment to driving meaningful change.

At Westpac, she also champions initiatives such as the RESPECT Employee Advocacy Group addressing domestic and family violence, in addition to her involvement in other programs such as Westpac’s Walk for a Cure and the Generation Valuable program.

Finch began her legal career at the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department in Canberra before progressing to other pivotal roles, including 25 years at King & Wood Mallesons.

During her time at King & Wood Mallesons, she practised litigation, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets across Canberra, London, and Sydney, where she rose to head of office.

She later joined Jones Day as a senior partner specialising in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and financial markets practice areas.

Beyond her executive roles, Finch has contributed to shaping industry standards as a member of the Law Council of Australia’s business law executive section and as chair of its corporations committee from 2018 to 2021.

Finch has experience as a non-executive director, including as past deputy chair of Forward Ability Support, and is currently a member of the AICD law committee.

She is also a member of Chief Executive Women Australia, as well as the Australian Corporate Counsel – GC100, and a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia.

Finch’s career excellence has been widely recognised by industry awards, including the Australasian Lawyers Most Influential Lawyers (Changemaker & Corporate Lawyer of the Year awards), the Legal 500 GC Powerlist and Best Lawyers Australia.
