Amy Kelly (pictured), who most recently served as the GC and board secretary for the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (Victoria) (ESTA), has joined Maddocks in its commercial team.

She brings more than 15 years of experience in advising on the full spectrum of public and administrative law, with a special focus on public policy and statutory interpretation, risk and compliance, the firm said in a statement.

The appointment marks Ms Kelly’s third stint at Maddocks, having commenced her career as a legal practitioner at the firm in 2005 before moving in-house to a role at WorkSafe Victoria, then returning to Maddocks as a senior and then assuming in-house positions at Visit Victoria and then ESTA.

Speaking about Ms Kelly’s return to the firm, Maddocks partner and head of the Victorian state government team James Smart said that Ms Kelly would be an “outstanding addition”.

“Amy has vast experience advising public sector clients on matters of great sensitivity and importance to the effective running of their organisations,” Mr Smart said.

The news follows Maddocks’ appointment of an employment, safety and people special counsel in late March and two special counsel in early February.

It also follows the firm’s release of a new report, produced in conjunction with the Women Barristers Association in Victoria, showcasing women at the bar as part of a push to ensure better representation, briefing numbers and proportionate pay, as well as an exclusive interview with Maddocks chief executive David Newman and partner Alicia Albury about the nexus between gender equality and the firm’s growth
