Banking giant Westpac has appointed a public M&A partner at global firm Jones Day as its new general counsel.
Shannon Finch, who has over 30 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, restructuring and regulatory engagement, has been named as the new general counsel for Westpac, in a statement to the ASX earlier on Wednesday, 14 July.
She was, until recently, the chairman of the Law Council’s corporations committee, and was formerly the partner-in-charge of King & Wood Mallesons’ Sydney office.
Ms Finch will assume her role on 1 November 2021, taking over from current GC Rebecca Lim, who announced in March that she would be stepping down.
Speaking about the appointment, Westpac Group chief executive Peter King said that he is thrilled to have “one of Australia’s leading corporate lawyers” lead the bank’s legal function.
“Shannon joins the Westpac Group Executive Team, reporting directly to me. I would once again like to thank Rebecca for her significant contribution over a 20-year career at Westpac,” he said.
