Sparke Helmore takes workplace team from HWL Ebsworth
National law firm Sparke Helmore continues to bolster its ranks with hires from BigLaw rivals, this time appointing a team from HWL Ebsworth for its workplace practice.
Thea Price has joined Sparke Helmore as a partner, effective 11 November, having come across from HWL Ebsworth, where she served for over seven years, including nearly three as a partner.
She has arrived with a team of four: senior associate Francesca Musumeci, associates Meg Neven and Claire Stevens, and senior secretary Julia Chittick.
All will be based in Sparke Helmore’s Brisbane office.
The news follows a period of substantial growth for Sparke Helmore.
Last week, Lawyers Weekly reported that the firm had appointed a specialty lines partner from Clyde & Co, following its taking of a corporate and commercial team from that global practice in late October. In the same month, it launched a corporate and commercial tech offering with two partners, from Bird & Bird and King & Wood Mallesons. And, in September, it expanded into Cairns with a team from Holding Redlich.
Price brings, Sparke Helmore detailed in a statement, “extensive” experience advising on all aspects of employment law and workplace relations, including unfair dismissals, general protections, genuine redundancies, managing ill and injured workers, discrimination, enterprise agreements, contracts of employment, contractor engagements, restraint of trade, and industrial instrument compliance.
Speaking about the appointments, Sparke Helmore national workplace practice group leader Catherine Wilkinson said: “We are excited to welcome Thea and her team members to Sparke Helmore. Thea is a highly accomplished employment and workplace relations lawyer with a strong client focus.
“Her connections in Queensland, including Brisbane and Cairns, will contribute to the ongoing success of our Queensland practice and expand our offering into our new Cairns office.”
Price said: “I am thrilled to be part of Sparke Helmore and to be working alongside a team renowned for their exceptional expertise and strategic yet empathic approach towards clients.
“This opportunity allows my team to join a firm that has a strong focus on cross-collaboration and prioritises the wellness and collegiality of its staff.”
