Hosted with the support of principal partner LOD, the Corporate Counsel Awards is the benchmark awards program for excellence in the corporate counsel sector.

The national awards recognise top-performing in-house legal professionals who are passionate about going above and beyond for their organisation and clients while influencing the profession and propelling the industry forward.

The awards are open to all eligible professionals and businesses operating across Australia.

General counsel, chief legal officers, legal counsel, company secretaries, and law departments are encouraged to submit an entry or nominate a worthy colleague across 20 individual and 15 group award categories by Friday, 24 February 2023.

At the end of the evening, the highest-scoring individual winner will become the recipient of the coveted Excellence Award.

Winners of the Corporate Counsel Awards will be announced at the black-tie gala dinner on Thursday, 25 May 2023, at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth in Sydney.

There are categories for agribusiness lawyers, defence lawyers, government lawyers, healthcare lawyers, legal operations professionals, transport and logistics lawyers, travel, tourism and hospitality lawyers, and many more.

Lawyers Weekly is also encouraging both individuals and legal departments to enter in the Wellness Initiative of the Year category for fostering wellness in the workplace and demonstrating a commitment to their workforce via at least one significant wellness initiative.

Securing a Corporate Counsel Award will set finalists and winners apart from their peers and strengthen their position in the profession by elevating their personal brand while gaining credibility to unlock new career opportunities.

The awards are peer-reviewed by a highly regarded judging panel to recognise the capabilities of individuals and groups in the legal profession.

The gala ceremony presents an opportunity for members of the legal profession to let their hair down and network with their peers while celebrating their stellar achievements.

Commenting on its partnership with the Corporate Counsel Awards, LOD head of business operations Anita Thompson said: “There is a reason why we continue to partner with Lawyers Weekly on the Corporate Counsel Awards since its inception — the event provides an incredible platform to celebrate the achievements of in-house lawyers and their teams across Australia.

“With our purpose at LOD being to create better, smarter, and more flexible ways of working for legal professionals and teams, it really is an important partnership to allow us all an occasion dedicated to the in-house legal market.

“We’ve really enjoyed watching the awards go from strength to strength each year. Good luck to everyone in their upcoming submissions.”

Lawyers Weekly editor Jerome Doraisamy added: “It has been another extraordinary year for in-house lawyers — across Australia and myriad sectors.

“No doubt the coming year will present even more challenges and opportunities for corporate counsel, whether a recession comes to pass or not. As such, taking time to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of those professionals is as pertinent as ever.

“As always, we are grateful to LOD for its unwavering support of Lawyers Weekly and this brilliant awards program.”
