HopgoodGanim expands digital assets team with a new head of practice
Tim Edwards has been appointed the head of HopgoodGanim’s digital assets practice in his ninth year with the firm.
As one of the first firms to advise in the sector, HopgoodGanim hopes to continue consolidating its practice with the appointment of a new head of digital assets.
“One of the strengths of our digital assets practice at HopgoodGanim is that we can provide a full service offering to businesses of all sizes, whether that is a start-up or a Nasdaq listed global player,” Mr Edwards said.
“While we have been advising market participants for several years, a recent surge in high-profile instructions, the significant growth of some of our initial ‘flagship’ clients — such as Zerocap — and the gradual increase in regulatory certainty have encouraged us to consolidate our offering to clients and present a specialist digital assets team to the market.”
The practice has a wide offering for clients of varying sizes. Under Mr Edwards’ leadership, the digital assets practice’s clientele has included a range of start-ups, investment platforms, and cryptocurrency exchanges, in addition to a Nasdaq top-10 company.
HopgoodGanim has worked with Zerocap, a crypto asset investment platform, for many years in regard to regulation, compliance, fundraising, data security, intellectual property, tax, interactions with Australian regulators, structuring and employment law.
Zerocap chief executive Ryan McCall said that “the rapidly expanding digital asset industry, with its evolving laws and regulations, presents both opportunities and challenges for businesses working with this asset class”.
“There is immense value in having a multidisciplinary law firm that can serve clients in every aspect of what they do,” he added.
“With HopgoodGanim, widely recognised as one of the leading law firms in Australia, we have the strength of a full-service firm, with Tim and the digital assets practice giving us the confidence to be a leader in our industry and continue to break new ground.”
