The ACT Bar Association has announced the appointment of two new silks for the nation’s capital.
Rebecca Curran — who assumed the role of ACT Bar president in September — has announced that Steven Whybrow and Anthony Williamson are the territory’s newest silks.
Mr Whybrow practises in criminal law, civil litigation, inquests and inquiries and also as a Reserve legal officer in the Royal Australian Air Force. He came to the bar in 2002, the ACT Bar statement said, after 12 years as a Crown prosecutor with the ACT DPP prosecuting matters in both the ACT magistrates and supreme courts.
Mr Williamson is Chief Crown Prosecutor and Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions at the ACT Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), having joined the ODPP in 2009, prior to which he was a legal officer in the ACT Department of Justice and Community Safety.
Ms Curran said: “After a wide-ranging consultation process, I am delighted to announce the senior counsel appointments of Mr Whybrow SC and Mr Williamson SC.”
