23 new SCs named in Victoria
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Victoria has announced the appointment of 23 new senior counsel in the Garden State.
The news follows the naming of 20 new silks in NSW last month.
The 23 selected for SC designation were identified via a “thorough” consultation with the Victorian Bar, the broader profession, the Legal Services Commissioner and the judiciary, Her Honour noted.
“Once again, our newest silks represent a range of backgrounds and areas of practice and are highly regarded leaders in their fields,” Ferguson CJ said.
“Being appointed senior counsel is a significant accomplishment. It recognises each person’s skill, integrity, independence and standing in the profession.
“It is the expectation of the profession and the judiciary that the new silks will provide outstanding service to the administration of justice and be true leaders in every sense of the word. I warmly congratulate each and every one of them.”
The newest silks in Victoria are James David Sinclair Barber, Elizabeth Jane Boros, Maria Pilipasidis, Christian Georg Otto Juebner, Romauld Andrew, Ian Peter Horak, Craig Smith, Jason Gullaci, Raelene Jane Sharp, Carl Theodorus Moller, Jonathan Hugh Kirkwood, Samuel Bruce Rosewarne, Frances Isobel Gordon, Melanie Lesley Baker, Albert Mark Dinelli, Zoe Emmanuelle Maud, Robyn Wendy Sweet, William Arthur Deryk Edwards, Mark Peter Costello, Emrys Nekvapil, Roslyn Linda Kaye, Melanie Szydzik, and Eleanor Mary Mallett.
Victorian Bar president Róisín Annesley KC said: “On behalf of the Victorian Bar I congratulate each one of the 23 members who were today appointed Senior Counsel in and for the State of Victoria."
"Appointment as Senior Counsel is given in recognition of excellence in advocacy and outstanding knowledge of the law. In addition, each new Silk has made a considerable contribution to the legal profession," she said.
"I am confident that they will continue to do so. I wish them all the best for the next stage of their careers.”
