“Mr Vaughan SC is a highly experienced legal practitioner who was admitted to practice in 1992 after completion of articles of clerkship at Sly & Weigall, Barristers and Solicitors,” the A-G said in announcing Mr Vaughan’s appointment.

“He practised for many years as a barrister and solicitor, before joining the Independent Bar in 2007 and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2013.

"Mr Vaughan SC continues to practice as a barrister at the Independent Bar from Francis Burt Chambers.”

Throughout his career, Mr Vaughan has practised predominantly in the area of insolvency, commercial litigation and taxation, appearing mainly in the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the Federal Court of Australia, a statement from the A-G office said.

Mr Vaughan’s past clientele includes insolvency practitioners, financial institutions, large to midsized corporations, and Commonwealth and State entities.

The statement also noted that Mr Vaughan has been a member of numerous professional bodies and associations throughout his legal career, including the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia, Law Society of WA, Western Australian Bar Association, and the Business Law Section of the Law Council of Australia.

In addition, he is also a former chairperson of the Insolvency and Construction Law Committee.

“With a legal career spanning more than 25 years, he will bring a wealth of experience to the bench of the Supreme Court and I wish him well in his new role.”

Mr Vaughan’s appointment becomes effective from 30 April, filling the vacancy left by the resignation of Justice Peter Martino.
