“I am truly honoured to have won this award given the high calibre of the other finalists,” said Fittler, who was listed as a finalist alongside Allens, human rights researcher Professor Paul Redmond and barrister and solicitor Stephen Kenny.
Fittler has built a strong career in law despite being blind for most of his life. He heads up the Third Sector Advisory Group at Gilbert + Tobin and is a member of the Disability Advisory Council for the NSW Department of Justice.
He was chosen to be part of the non-government delegation to the United Nations Ad Hoc Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and was a recipient of Lawyers Weekly Young Gun Award in 2010.
