New judge appointed to Tasmanian Supreme Court
A new judge has been appointed to the Supreme Court of Tasmania, bringing more than 25 years of legal experience with her.
Kate Cuthbertson SC has been sworn in by the Honourable Barbara Baker AC and is now a judge for the Tasmanian Supreme Court after being admitted to practice in 1999.
Justice Cuthbertson has been a judge of the Federal Circuit and Family Court since last year and has previously worked as a barrister and solicitor with the Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania.
Tasmania Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Guy Barnett congratulated the judge on her new role.
“Tasmania’s Supreme Court has a proud 200-year history, and Judge Cuthbertson will no doubt build upon this terrific legacy. Judge Cuthbertson brings a wealth of experience to this position, having worked extensively as a barrister, solicitor and judge of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia over the course of 20 years,” he said.
“Our justice system plays a number of important functions in our modern, democratic society, and it remains vitally important to uphold this institution. I have full confidence that Judge Cuthbertson will continue to uphold and add to Tasmania’s justice system.
“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future champions a robust, fit-for-purpose legal system, and our judges are critical to achieving this goal.”
