Sarah Keating has been appointed as the newest Crown counsel for the Victorian government and will provide high-level advice and conduct reviews and investigations on a range of legal and policy-related matters in her new role.

Keating has extensive experience in public and criminal law and was first called to the Bar in 2008. She has since appeared in complex criminal trials, appeals, judicial review proceedings, commissions of inquiry and tribunals, including high-profile criminal and regulatory cases involving allegations of murder, fraud, cartel conduct, workplace manslaughter, professional misconduct and corrupt behaviour.

Keating replaces Liam Brown SC, who was Crown counsel for more than five years, following his resignation in July this year.

Victoria Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes thanked Brown for his service and praised Keating’s experience.

“Ms Keating has been a leader at the Bar with her impressive experience across public and criminal law, as well as being recognised for her guidance of junior lawyers,” she said.

“I look forward to seeing Ms Keating continue the critical work of the Crown counsel. I also thank outgoing Crown counsel Liam Brown SC for his five years of service and expert legal advice to government.”
