District Court judge elevated to NSW Supreme Court
Judge Andrew Coleman SC, who was appointed to the NSW District Court three years ago, is set to join the state’s Supreme Court in October.
Coleman J brings, the NSW Attorney-General’s Department said in a statement, nearly four decades of legal expertise to the Supreme Court bench, including as a solicitor, barrister, senior counsel, and most recently as a NSW District Court judge.
Coleman J was also a part-time senior member of the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal for several years before being appointed to the District Court, sitting on the appeals panel, consumer and commercial, and occupational divisions of the tribunal.
Elsewhere, His Honour has been a member of the Australian Army Legal Corps (Reserves) since 2016, when he was commissioned as a Major.
Speaking about the appointment, NSW Attorney-General Michael Daley said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Judge Andrew Coleman SC to the Supreme Court bench.
“His Honour is a highly respected lawyer and current member of the judiciary, and his expertise will be invaluable to the court and everyone who interacts with it.
“I congratulate Judge Coleman on this well-deserved achievement.”
Judge Coleman will be sworn in as a judge of the Supreme Court on 1 October.
