John Catsanos SC is the newest judge of the NSW District Court, and will bring – according to a statement from the Attorney-General’s Department of the state – a “strong track record” of providing independent, specialist advice and representation to a range of clients over four decades in law, from medical malpractice and injuries in public places, to car crashes and workplace accidents.

He has, the statement went on, practised as a barrister at the NSW bar for 37 years, having been admitted as a barrister in 1987. In 2019, he was appointed senior counsel.

Catsanos’ work has mainly consisted of complex cases, such as industrial and motor accidents, professional negligence and public liability, and he currently works out of Henry Parkes Chambers.

Catsanos will be sworn in on 5 August 2024.

Speaking about the appointment, NSW Attorney-General Michael Daley said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of John Catsanos SC to the District Court bench.”

“Mr Catsanos’ expertise will be vital to the court and I would like to congratulate him on this well-deserved achievement,” A-G Daley said.
