12 new judges appointed to FCFCOA
Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus has named 12 new judges for the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, three of whom are joining Division 1, and nine of whom will sit in Division 2 to hear protection visa and migration cases.
Late last week, the A-G’s Department unveiled three new judges for Division 1 of the FCFCOA: South Australian barrister Mark Anderson, ACT barrister Dr Juliet Behrens, and Judge Elizabeth Boyle, who was appointed as a judge in Division 2 of the FCFCOA in 2016.
The trio commenced in their roles yesterday (5 August).
The A-G’s Department also announced nine new judges for Division 2 of the FCFCOA, who will hear protection visa and migration cases.
Those appointees are Victorian silk Philip Corbett KC, Queensland barrister Amanda Coulthard, Tasmanian silk and former member of the Tasmanian Mental Health Tribunal and Anti-Discrimination Tribunal Kate Cuthbertson SC, AGS senior executive lawyer Arran Gerrard, Fair Work deputy president Val Gostencnik, NSW-based barrister Sheila Kaur-Bains, AAT deputy president and division head Bernard McCabe, AAT member Peter Papadopoulos, and AAT senior member Rania Skaros.
The appointees will sit across the Brisbane, Sydney, Parramatta, Melbourne, and Adelaide registries of the court and also commenced their new roles yesterday.
A-G Dreyfus congratulated the new appointees and thanked them “for their willingness to serve the people of Australia as judges of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia”.
