The Australian government has made 18 new appointments to the AAT, in terms that will commence prior to the commencement of the new Administrative Review Tribunal (ART).

ART will replace the AAT and will be “user-focused, efficient, accessible, independent and fair”, according to the government. It is due to commence operations on 14 October this year, after which all ongoing and non-ongoing Australian Public Service staff employed by the AAT will transition to the new tribunal.

Alison Clues, Glen Cranwell, Geoffrey McCarthy and Kim Rosser have all been appointed as senior members of the AAT.

Further, the following have been appointed as new AAT members: Fiona Brady, Elim Chan, Clair Duffy, Sally Gooch, Michael Judd, Anita King, Jennifer Lock, Dr Jennifer Maclean, Louise McDonald, Sharon Sangha, Olympia Sarrinikolaou, Andrew Shelley, David Stevens, and Mersina Stratos.

Attorney-General the Honourable Mark Dreyfus KC MP said that the government will announce further appointments to the AAT and ART “in due course”.

“Each of these members was assessed as suitable for appointment by an independent selection panel through a transparent and merit-based process, conducted in accordance with the guidelines for appointments to the AAT and closely informed by requirements set out in the Administrative Review Tribunal Act 2024,” Dreyfus said.

“On behalf of the government, I congratulate each of these members on their appointment to the AAT.”
