Victoria Engel has been appointed senior counsel.

In her new role, Ms Engel will be a part of the small but growing group of women silks composed of the likes of Susan Cox OAM KC (2004), Justice Judith Kelly, Justice Sonia Brownhill and Dr Nanette Rogers.

Ms Engel brings with her extensive experience in the legal profession, both as a crown prosecutor in NSW and the Northern Territory.

She has also held the position of deputy director of public prosecutions in Northern Territory and previously held the position of principal crown prosecutor within the DPP.

Commenting on the appointment, Northern Territory Law Society president Peggy Cheong said:

“This appointment is well deserved and respected as Ms Engels brings many years of criminal advocacy experience and legal knowledge to her practice.”

“The appointment of Ms Engel as senior counsel follows a long and distinguished career as a crown prosecutor which deservedly culminated in her appointment as the first female Deputy director of public prosecutions in the Territory in June 2021.”
