Karl Blake has been named as the new judge and will commence his new role in the Melbourne Registry.

According to a statement supplied by Attorney-General Christian Porter MP, Mr Blake graduated with a bachelor of laws with honours and a bachelor of commerce from the University of Melbourne in 1997, and was admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1998.

“Mr Blake began his career as a lawyer at Blake Dawson Waldron in 1998 specialising in industrial relations and employment law. He became a Senior Associate in 2001 before becoming team leader and later practice group head with Maddocks,” the A-G said.

“In 2007, Mr Blake became a Partner at Maddocks until 2015 when he was appointed partner at MinterEllison, where he has continued to be recognised as a leading practitioner in industrial relations and employment law.

“On behalf of the government, I congratulate Mr Blake on his appointment and thank him for his willingness to serve the people of Australia as a judge of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia.”
