5 senior counsel appointed at SA Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of South Australia has seen the appointment of five new senior counsel.

Chief Justice of South Australia the Honourable Chris Kourakis has announced the appointment of the new special counsel – Michael Burnett, Alan Lindsay, Domenic Petraccaro, Dr Rachael Gray and Heath Barklay.

 
 

Mr Burnett was admitted to practice in 1981. Throughout his career, he has gained extensive experience in commercial litigation, principally in the Federal Court, the Supreme Court and the District Court.

Mr Lindsay was admitted to practice in South Australia in 1983. He specialises in medical negligence, professional regulation, insurance, personal injury and general civil law.

Mr Petraccaro was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court in 1994.  He practises principally in the area of criminal law and has appeared in all jurisdictions of criminal law with an emphasis in the last 10 years in the appellate jurisdictions of the Supreme Court, in particular the Court of Criminal Appeal, according to a statement from Chief Justice Kourakis.

Dr Gray was admitted to practice in 1995. She specialises in public law, industrial and workers compensation law and estate law. In addition, Dr Gray has appeared in superior and intermediate courts and tribunals, undertaking both trial and appellate work.

Meanwhile, Mr Barklay was admitted to practice in 1997, joining the Independent Bar in 2010. Mr Barklay practises predominantly in the area of criminal law, appearing mainly in the Supreme and District Courts of South Australia.
