NSW A-G announces 3 new magistrates
NSW Attorney-General Mark Speakman announced the appointment of three new magistrates for the Local Court of NSW on Wednesday.
Richard Funston will be sworn in on 30 April 2018, and Leanne Robinson and Andrew Miller will assume their duties on 23 April 2018.
Mr Funston brings more than three decades of experience as a solicitor and manager of legal services in NSW and Victoria, having served as deputy chief executive and director of criminal law for Legal Aid NSW, as well as acting as chief executive on several occasions.
Ms Robinson has specialised in criminal law for more than 20 years, has served as Legal Aid deputy director of criminal law, and won the Children’s Lawyer of the Year award from the National Children’s and Youth Law Centre in 1997.
Mr Miller served as a Crown Prosecutor for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions from 2016 to 2017, and has worked as a barrister and solicitor in private practice. While at the bar, he conducted the trial of Sydney dentist Rodger Leighton who was jailed for sexually assaulting girls while they were under the influence of nitrous oxide.
