Three practitioners who were appointed as district court judges in WA have been congratulated by the state’s legal representative body.
Fiona Vernon, Hylton Quail and Kate Glancy joined the bench of the District Court of Western Australia in December.
Ms Vernon has expertise in commercial law, equity, insurance, taxation and trade practices. She is a member of the Law Society's courts committee and also deputy convenor of its Ethics Committee.
Meanwhile, Mr Quail is the convenor of the Chief Justice's Law Week Youth Appeal Trust Allocations Committee. Prior to becoming a judge, he mainly practised in criminal law.
In her former role as deputy state solicitor, Kate Glancy was directly responsible for the management of the Civil Wrongs team. According to the law society, she practised at the State Solicitor’s Office from 1993, after graduating from the University of Western Australia.
The WA Law Society issued a statement congratulating three new judicial officers on their respective appointments.
“Each appointee possesses a wealth of legal experience, and every other essential quality required to discharge their duty as a member of the Court with distinction,” Law Society of WA president Alain Musikanth said.
“I warmly congratulate Ms Vernon, Mr Quail and Ms Glancy on their respective appointments.”
