Announced at the society’s annual general meeting on 21 September, current president of the society, Sarah Avery of Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, was re-elected unopposed.

In addition, the vice presidents were revealed, naming Snedden Hall & Gallop’s Craig Painter and ACT Civil and Adminisrative Tribunal’s Peter Cain.

Louise Vardanega PSM of the Australian Government Solicitor was elected as secretary, and Vik Sundar of Chamberlains Law Firm as treasurer.

Meanwhile, other councillors listed were Valerie Bradley, Trinity Law; Matthew Carmody, McInnes Wilson Lawyers; Martin Carrick, Slater & Gordon;
Elizabeth Carroll, IP Australia; Paul Edmonds, Paul Edmonds & Associates; Sama Khan, McInnes Wilson Lawyers; Gavin Lee, Arthur J Gallagher; Sage Leslie, DDCS Lawyers; George Marques, HWL Ebsworth; and Susan Platis, Legal Aid ACT.

Speaking at the AGM, Ms Avery said she would like to thank the outgoing members of Council and was pleased to welcome those joining.

At the event, Ms Avery also presented the society's Law Week donation to the Australian Indigenous Leadership Cente (AILC), according to a statement.

This year the donation totalled to almost $10,000.

“Members of the Law Society should be justly proud of the donations raised this year for the AILC,” said Ms Avery.

“It is a reflection of the legal profession’s connection with, and care for, the Canberra community.”
