The Queensland legal profession has welcomed the appointment of a former solicitor to the state’s Land Court.
Peta Stilgoe OAM was appointed a member of the Land Court of Queensland in late July. The judicial officer is a senior member of the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) and a former solicitor.
“Peta Stilgoe is a well-respected litigation lawyer with particular experience in planning and environment matters,” Ms D’Ath said.
“What’s more, she has specialised in mediation and was awarded an OAM for services to dispute resolution.”
Queensland Law Society president Christine Smyth welcomed Ms Stilgoe’s appointment.
“On behalf of the profession, I congratulate Ms Stilgoe on her new appointment. She is more than eminently qualified and experienced for the role,” Ms Smyth said.
“Our community benefits greatly when the government appoints solicitors who have the technical expertise and people skills necessary for commissions and judicial office.
“It increases the intellectual rigour and humanises our justice system.”
Ms Smyth said she was pleased to see a former solicitor appointed to the role.
“I congratulate the Attorney-General for her foresight in choosing appointments from the solicitor’s branch of the profession.”
