NSW Supreme Court justice takes on new role
NSW Supreme Court Justice Michael Adams has been appointed as the first Chief Commissioner of the newly established Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.

Minister for Police Troy Grant made the announcement, welcoming Justice Adams to the new police watchdog which will replace the Police Integrity Commission, the Police Division of the Office of the Ombudsman, and the Inspector of the Crime Commission.
Justice Adams graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney in 1969. Throughout his career, he has worked in legal aid in Papua New Guinea and Canberra, and as a public defender for two years in Sydney. He was appointed as the Queen's counsel in 1988, was a chairperson of the NSW Law Reform Commission from 1996 to 2006, and was made a Justice of the NSW Supreme Court in 1998.
In his new role, Justice Adams will be supported by the Commissioner for Integrity and the Commissioner for Oversight. An Inspector of the LECC will also be appointed to oversee the operations of the LECC, according to a statement by Mr Grant on behalf of the NSW Department of Justice.
Mr Grant said the appointment of Justice Adams as the first Chief Commissioner of the LECC represents an important milestone in the NSW government's efforts to improve law enforcement oversight.
"On behalf of the NSW government, I congratulate Justice Adams on his appointment as the inaugural Chief Commissioner of the LECC," Mr Grant said.
"Justice Adams brings a wealth of experience to this job, and I am confident that he will provide strong leadership for the new watchdog, ultimately serving our men and women in blue."
