Carmel Barbagallo, Amanda Forrester and Darren Jackson are the newest barristers to be appointed senior counsel in Western Australia. Chief Justice Martin announced the appointments last week.

Law Society of WA president Elizabeth Needham underscored the trio’s “undisputed integrity and talent”.

“I commend our three new senior counsel,” she said.

Ms Barbagallo works for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and serves as a consultant state prosecutor.

Ms Forrester is currently the acting Director of Public Prosecutions for the ODPP.

Mr Jackson specialises in intellectual property, insolvency, corporate regulation and the commercial aspects of trade practices. He is also a member of the Law Society of WA’s education committee.

A statement released by the Supreme Court of WA said the three barristers were chosen from a group of 18 advocates who applied for silk this year.

“Appointment as senior counsel is based on eminence in the practice of law, especially in advocacy, unquestioned integrity, availability and independence,” the court said.

Chief Justice Martin chaired the committee that selected the new appointees, comprising senior judicial officers from the Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, Federal Court, Family Court, District Court and State Administrative Tribunal.
