Multiple judicial appointments for WA

The Western Australian Court of Appeal has a new president and a new judge, while the Magistrates Court of Western Australia and the Children’s Court of Western Australia both have new magistrates.

The Law Society of Western Australia has congratulated the Honourable Justice Michael Buss QC, the Honourable Justice Robert Mitchell, Raelene Johnston and Adam Hills-Wright on their new judicial positions.

Justice Buss QC has been appointed as the president of the Court of Appeal, having been a judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the Court of Appeal since 2006.

Justice Mitchell has been appointed as a judge of the Court of Appeal, having been a Supreme Court of Western Australia judge since 2014.

They will both commence their new positions on 18 July 2016.

Meanwhile, Ms Johnston and Mr Hills-Wright have been appointed as magistrates of the Magistrates Court of Western Australia and Children’s Court of Western Australia.

“Each of the appointees is highly respected within the legal profession,” said Elizabeth Needham, president of the Law Society of Western Australia.

“The people of Western Australia will be well served by their high level of expertise and integrity.”
