The Macrossan Chambers, with offices in Brisbane, Cairns and Melbourne, are the first to operate under the same name in more than one state, according to founder David Denton QC.

Mr Denton, a member of the Victorian Bar, banded together with Queensland Bar members Jacoba Brasch QC, Grant Allan and Picha Djohan to establish the new set-up.

Mr Denton suggested the Bar was moving away from its state-centric identity towards a national approach.

“Now more than ever, the practice of a barrister is national in focus,” he said. “Gone are the days of being solely city-based. There has been a paradigm shift in the way we practice and ply our craft.”

The four founders first established chambers in Cairns in 2010, then more recently opened another office in Melbourne under the Macrossan name.

The Brisbane branch provides “adjunct facilities”, according to the group's website.

In addition, Mr Denton suggested a Sydney location may be on the cards in the near future. “I suppose ‘have wig – will travel’ is apposite,” he said.
