Global insurer names new GC

QBE has nabbed the group general counsel and company secretary at Woolworths Limited to head its legal team.

Peter Horton will start the new role based in Sydney on 9 June 2014. He succeeds the current group general counsel and company secretary, Duncan Ramsay, who is leaving QBE at the end of June after 20 years with the global insurer.

Ramsay spoke at the ACLA Corporate Counsel Day in January on board workloads and procedures in the wake of Centro and James Hardie decisions.

Horton joined Woolworths Limited in 2005. He was previously the legal head of mining and fertilizer company WMC Resources Limited and, prior to that, the principal solicitor at BHP.

QBE Australia is a division of the QBE Insurance Group, one of the world’s top 20 general insurance and reinsurance companies.
