Special counsel breaks free of private practice
An Allens special counsel has been appointed Assistant Victorian Government Solicitor.
Julie Freeman will take up her position in the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office (VGSO) on 15 July and will lead the office’s commercial, property & technology branch.
Her government expertise includes major projects; procurement; industry regulation and reform; contractual interpretation, negotiation and drafting; governance advisory work; statutory interpretation, and property, environment and native title.
She worked on the refranchising of the Victorian public transport system, including advising on complex contractual structures and drafting of new agreements.
“I've had 19 wonderful years at Allens,” said Freeman, “but I'm excited by this opportunity to lead the commercial, property & technology team at the VGSO.”
Commenting on the appointment, Victorian Government Solicitor Peter Stewart said: "I am delighted that Julie is joining us. She brings a wonderful blend of technical skill, commercial nous and great experience acting for both government and the private sector."
At Allens, Freeman also played a very significant role in developing the firm’s project management tools and knowledge management resources; she is passionate about effective sharing of knowledge to enable efficient client service.
“This is another component of our practice to which Julie will make an immensely valuable contribution,” Stewart added.
