Corrs boosts financial services group

Corrs Chambers Westgarth has taken a financial services expert from Mallesons Stephen Jaques and placed him in the firm’s corporate advisory practice. Michael Chaaya, who has been brought in as a partner, brings 11 years of experience in wealth management with him, on top of clients in funds management, major banks, life insurance companies and superannuation funds. Chaaya was a finalist for the Law and Justice Foundation of NSW Justice Medal in 2007.

Catanzariti not new Rock Hudson

The inaugural monthly YouTube briefing by NSW Law Society president Joe Catanzariti has notched up around 200 views, The Australian Financial Review reports today. “Catanzariti acknowledges that he’s no star performer, and seem philosophical about whether the new age strategy would be successful.” In an amusing interview with the AFR he said: “No, I am no Rock Hudson (chuckle) … but I hope you find this something different.”

New WA Supreme Court judge

The Western Australian Attorney General Christian Porter this week announced the appointment of a new judge on the State’s Supreme Court. Graeme Harold Murphy SC has specialised in commercial litigation, principally in banks and mining companies, and has worked at the firm formally known as Phillips Fox, as well as Blake Dawson. He joined Clifford Chance in London in 1985, and joined the Independent Bat in 1994. The new judge takes up the new post next Tuesday 28 April.
