Farrer worked as an investment banker at Macquarie Group and as a lawyer at Allens before joining Greenhill and its predecessor firm, Caliburn Partnership, as an advisor.

Greenhill is an independent investment bank specialising in M&A, strategic advice, restructurings, financings and capital raisings.

“Jonathan is a respected and accomplished dealmaker,” said Corrs partner and CEO John Denton.

Farrer joins Corrs’ Melbourne office in the corporate advisory group.

He has advised on many of the major M&A transactions of recent times, including: Coal & Allied on its $10.8 billion acquisition by Rio Tinto and Mitsubishi; Lihir on its $9.5 billion acquisition by Newcrest; OZ

Minerals on the sale of assets to China Minmetals for $1.4 billion, and Oxiana on its $12 billion merger with Zinifex.

Farrer has also advised on high-profile capital market transactions, including the Future Fund's $2.4 billion sell-down in Telstra and a $3 billion equity raising by Santos.

Farrer has first class honours degrees in commerce and law from the University of Melbourne and also holds a Master of Laws degree. He has been co-editor of the Takeovers and Public Securities section of the Company and Securities Law Journal for more than 10 years.

He will join Corrs on 1 March.
