Mark van Brakel has joined Corrs Chambers Westgarth as a partner in its litigation group in Perth.

The appointment reinforces Corrs' commitment to maintaining a market-leading national litigation practice and further strengthens the firm's capability in the Perth legal market, the firm said.

Van Brakel has commercial litigation expertise, specialising in major project, engineering and resources disputes, contractual disputes, business interruption claims, insurance, administrative law and regulatory prosecutions.

The litigation expert has acted for Fortescue Metals Group in a variety of court litigation matters, including the ASIC civil penalty proceedings relating to the company’s continuous disclosure obligation.

He has acted for a US company in a major dispute over a long-term mineral supply contract and in a dispute over a proposed change in control of a joint venture participant.

Prior to joining Clayton Utz and Corrs, van Brakel worked with the Crown Solicitor's Office and the Office of Public Prosecutions.
