Most of us have worked with people who tend to lack a little email etiquette. These types of people send what they think are quick, short, efficient emails to get the job done, unaware that their email requests are leaving their colleagues offended and unwilling to cooperate.

 
 

According to law.com, there is now a way to avoid these kinds of misunderstandings in the office, with the help of Tone Check.

Whether it's the use of seemingly hostile or angry phrases or the overuse of exclamation marks when delivering serious news (we all know someone guilty of excessive use of the smiley face or unnecessary triple exclamation mark), Tone Check can help those lacking email etiquette to set the right tone before pressing the send button and potentially offending the entire office.

Tone Check works by flagging certain phrases outside your specified "tone tolerance" and offers substitutes - a god send for those thinking it's okay to throw in a "LOL" or "OMG" in an email to their CEO. It evaluates words and phrases for the intensity of eight primary emotions, including affection, elation, excitement, gratitude, sadness, fear, anger and humiliation.
