A bizarre traffic accident involving a dog crashing his owner's Chevrolet ute through a café shopfront in the New Zealand town of Cromwell has left residents amazed and the local constabulary warning of the dangers of leaving pets unattended in vehicles.
Onlookers who rushed to provided assistance were gobsmacked upon discovering the perpetrator of the crash.
"A lady from Mitre 10 ran through the doors and said 'Did you know that your dog's just driven through the cafe doors?'" bottle shop manager, Terry Fox, told TVNZ.
"We popped out there and it was definitely right, it was sitting in the driver's seat," he said.
The attending policeman, Senior Constable John Chambers, told local media that it was the first time in his thirty-year career that he had attended an accident caused by a canine driver.
"When I arrived, to my disbelief I found it was a dog that was responsible for causing the damage," Chambers said.
He added it was fortunate the car was only travelling at a low speed and there were not many people in the street, before letting the owner off with a warning.
No charges were laid against need-for-speed Wilco, although Folklaw imagines he may be serving an extended sentence in the dog house.
