At Travis Schultz & Partners’ fifth annual fundraising dinner, lawyers from the Sunshine Coast successfully raised tens of thousands of dollars to provide essential legal assistance to communities in need.
Last week, the Sunshine Coast legal community gathered at Queensland compensation law firm Travis Schultz & Partners’ (TSP) annual fundraising wine dinner to raise $45,000 for the Suncoast Community Legal Service (SCLS).
The funds raised have contributed to TSP’s total fundraising efforts, which have exceeded $180,000 for SCLA since the launch of its fundraising initiative in 2021.
The sold-out event attracted 220 local lawyers and aimed to raise awareness and support for the vital work done by SCLS, which provides “free advice and referral services” to vulnerable members of the community who need access to legal support.
At this year’s event, the Honourable Deb Frecklington MP, Queensland Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity, delivered a keynote address.
In her speech, Queensland’s A-G emphasised the vital importance of community legal services and their ongoing efforts to promote equitable access to justice for all residents of Queensland.
The fundraising efforts were supported by a live auction and raffle, where attendees had the chance to bid on an array of items, “including jewellery and weekend getaways”.
Travis Schultz, the managing partner for TSP, expressed his pride in the efforts of the local legal community to unite in support of this commendable cause.
“Nights like this make me very proud to be a part of the local profession. I’ve been working in this field since 1989, and it’s heartening to see what can be achieved when we come together to support an essential cause like SCLS.
“Over 100 local lawyers volunteer their time and expertise to the service, and they continue their support with events like this. A lot has changed during my career, but one thing that remains steadfast is this profession’s commitment to values and giving back,” Schultz said.
He added: “The funds raised annually help the service to keep serving the less fortunate in our neighbourhoods where we work and live. Thank you to everyone for your generous support”.
SCLS president Noela L’Estrange conveyed her appreciation for the kindness displayed, stating: “SCLS is delighted with the generosity of our local profession, which continues to fund legal support for the most vulnerable in our community. There are increasing calls on the service, with our population rapidly growing.”
