Recently, ACT Law Society president Rob Reis tendered his resignation, and following a meeting of the society’s council, Vik Sundar – who was serving as its vice president and chair of council – has been appointed to fill the casual vacancy until the next AGM, in accordance with the society’s constitution.

Sundar is the managing director and founder of Canberra-based firm Clear Law. He has served as ACT Law Society vice president since January 2024 and chair of counsel since November. Prior to this, he was a council and executive member, as well as the society’s treasurer.

Speaking about this appointment, Sundar said that he was honoured to take up the role of president.

“I look forward to serving as president and supporting the important work of the society. In particular, continuing to drive the Governance Review, which commenced in 2024,” he said.

“The society’s aim is to modernise and align with modern good practice, and we are conscious our regulatory role needs our governance mechanisms to be and be seen as good practice.”

“I look forward to meeting members at the opening of the Society’s brand-new office space, to be held on 3 March 2025,” Sundar said.

Elsewhere, the society’s council appointed Lisa Quilty as vice president, which she will undertake in conjunction with existing vice president Andrew Allan.

In a statement, the council congratulated Sundar and Quilty on their appointments and expressed its thanks to Reis.
