Sam McIvor (pictured) has been appointed as the new managing partner of Mullins Lawyers, with the appointment scheduled to take effect on 31 December 2024. He will succeed Curt Schatz, who has served as managing partner for nearly a decade and has been a valued member of the firm for 30 years.

The Brisbane-based commercial law firm also shared how he specialises in employment law, including employment relations, industrial relations and health and safety.

Throughout his eight-year tenure at Mullins, McIvor has held key leadership roles, including serving as an equity partner and practice group leader.

Speaking about his new role, McIvor conveyed both his excitement and honour in being appointed managing partner, emphasising his commitment to leading the firm through this dynamic period of growth and development.

“I am honoured to be called upon to lead the firm through its next phase of growth. It’s a very exciting period for the firm, and I look forward to working collaboratively with partners and staff to achieve our strategic objectives, including maintaining sustainable growth, delivering excellent client service, and nurturing our next generation of leaders,” McIvor said.

Mullins Lawyers has shared its confidence in Sam McIvor’s leadership, noting that the firm is well positioned to “continue its success and build upon its strong foundation” under his direction.

Despite stepping down from the role of managing partner, Schatz will continue his tenure with Mullins Lawyers. The firm has announced that he will transition to the position of senior equity partner, where he will shift his focus on driving the firm’s “client base and revenue streams”.

Reflecting on his tenure as managing partner, Schatz expressed pride in the firm’s accomplishments during his leadership and conveyed his enthusiasm for continuing to contribute to its ongoing growth.

“When I came to the managing partner role, my vision was to direct growth and succession, we have certainly achieved that. But I am not going anywhere and will now have more time for my clients and referrers without the managing partner role,” Schatz said.

“It is a wonderful time to recognise the solid platform that now exists for the firm’s future, and I believe Sam’s leadership will drive the firm towards even greater success.”
