Thornton + King acquires Sydney boutique
NewLaw firm Thornton + King has acquired a boutique family law firm and has appointed the firm’s owner to a key position within its structure.
Last week, NSW-based law firm Thornton + King bolstered its practice by acquiring Steiner Legal, a boutique family law firm based in Sydney that specialises in same-sex relationships, IVF, and surrogacy matters.
This acquisition was completed to enhance the array of specialised services that the NewLaw firm is able to provide and offer its clients.
As part of this acquisition, Erin Steiner, the founder of Steiner Legal, will join the Thornton + King team, where she will assume the position of special counsel.
With over 15 years of experience, this transition will allow her to continue providing specialised family law services in matters pertaining to same-sex relationships and the highly specialised domains of IVF, artificial insemination, and surrogacy law.
Karunn Shahani, a managing partner at Thornton + King, expressed his excitement about the acquisition and Steiner joining the firm, noting the reputation she has built within the legal community.
“Erin is well known for her firm’s work on the 2019 High Court case of Masson & Parsons & Anors, where it was established for the first time in Australian history that a sperm donor may, in some circumstances, be considered the legal parent of a child.
“We’re excited to have an accomplished lawyer like Erin Steiner join our rapidly growing family law team,” Shahani said.
He added: “We’re constantly on the lookout for exceptional lawyers to ensure that our clients are offered the best in legal services, and we are pleased to add IVF, artificial insemination, and surrogacy agreements to our list of service offerings.”
The recent acquisition of Steiner Legal, along with the inclusion of its founder in the firm, aligns with Thornton + King’s initiative to expand its family law team, with the firm also appointing Celia Pitcher, a family-law-accredited specialist, to the firm earlier this year.
