Children’s lawyer named WA Law Society president for 2025
Gary Mack, who is the mayor of West Australian town Cambridge, as well as an independent children’s lawyer and family dispute resolution practitioner, is set to serve as the president of the Law Society of Western Australia next year.
Gary Mack, who is the current senior vice president of the WA Law Society, will serve as its president in 2025. He was the only nominee for the role.
He will replace the 2024 president, Paula Wilkinson.
Mack’s term will commence on 1 January.
Speaking about his predecessor and his goals, Mack said: “I applaud Paula for her strength and courage as a strong advocate for a number of social justice issues during her tenure, including the very important issue of child detention in WA.
“I will continue to speak out, on behalf of our members, on important issues as they arise.”
Mack noted that he intends to work closely with society’s incoming chief executive, yet to be named, following the resignation this year of David Price, after more than 18 years in the job.
“David is extremely well connected in the profession, and my job will be to make sure his replacement is integrated well across all those networks and with law societies across the country,” he said.
Wilkinson said: “I am delighted for Gary, who has proved himself to be a first-class advocate and lawyer.
“I know the Law Society’s voice will continue to be heard on important topics on which we will be advocating ahead of the upcoming state election and for the rest of 2025.”
