Why this lawyer launched an all-pink law firm
Here, the founder of Tully Law shares the fascinating story of her creating Australia’s first all-pink law firm, drawing both from personal ambition and popular culture.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Boutique Lawyer Show, Nikolina Tully, the founder and legal practice director of personal injury law firm Tully Law, shared insights into her journey of establishing her all-pink legal enterprise and discussed the inspiration behind her bold decision to differentiate her law firm in this unique manner. She also delved into how she overcame the internal doubts that initially held her back from pursuing her vision of launching her own law firm.
Many legal professionals spend years planning the establishment of their own law firm and shaping its identity. Tully, However, harboured the vision of creating an all-pink law firm since her days as a law student.
“When I was in my late teens, early 20s, basically when I was at university, I said to myself, ‘right, I’m going to start an all-pink law firm,’” she said.
After watching Legally Blonde, Tully was inspired to create a pink law firm. However, she revealed that it wasn’t just the aesthetic of the film that inspired her but also the empowering message that one could stay true to themselves and still make a significant impact in the legal industry.
“Perhaps I was inspired a little bit [by] the movie Legally Blonde. But I guess that movie resonated with me in the sense that you can be who you are and you don’t have to be defined or fit into a mould,” she said.
She also stated how the movie taught her how “you can be uniquely who you are and be successful and have dreams and ambitions in life and achieve what you want”.
Despite having this aspiration for several years, Tully emphasised that it took her a while to feel prepared and ready to turn this dream into a reality.
“That dream was born many, many years ago. I didn’t have the timing; it’s just waiting for timing, and having the courage and feeling that you’re ready to take that leap of faith,” she said.
However, she articulated how her determination and recognition eventually overshadowed her initial fears about establishing her law firm, that the moment had to be seized to turn this dream into reality.
“At the back of my mind was this little voice saying, ‘it’s time to start your firm,’ and obviously, I eventually came to a point in my life where I said, ‘right, if I don’t do this now, I probably never will,’” she said.
Tully shared that she was greatly motivated to take the next step by her husband, who encouraged her to start her own law firm. His wise words became the catalyst Tully needed to leap forward and embark on this new and scary endeavour.
“I recall my husband many times saying to me, ‘you got to stop talking about it and just do it.’ I probably spoke about it for years to the point where he eventually said, either do it or stop talking about it, because you can’t live your life constantly dreaming about something and talking about not actually doing it. So it’s actually putting those words into action,” she said.
Even though she found the experience “very daunting” and described it as “one of the scariest things” she has done, Tully emphasised how she hasn’t looked back and considers it the best decision she has made in her legal career.
“Now, I never look back with any regret at all. I definitely made the best decision. It was in the pipeline for such a long time. So glad. And sometimes I think, oh, why didn’t I do it sooner?” she said.
Tully also elaborated on her decision to establish an all-pink law firm, citing the psychological impact of this colour on her clients.
“A large portion of people will tend to pick a law firm or a profession based on colouring, and it is an actual psychologically known aspect of branding and marketing, and for me [I chose] pink,” she said.
She also added: “It’s not just pink associated with the movie Legally Blonde – obviously, Reese Witherspoon wearing pink all throughout that movie … it’s actually got nothing to do with that. It’s [that] pink is actually the colour that signifies hope.”
