‘Dishonourable’ solicitor’s practising certificate cancelled
An NSW solicitor has had his practising certificate cancelled after he was found to have engaged in “dishonourable” conduct.
Andrew Joseph Tohme’s practising certificate for the year ending 30 June 2025 was cancelled, according to the NSW Office of the Legal Services Commissioner’s register of disciplinary action.
His conduct was considered to be “dishonourable and contrary to the duty of legal practitioners to be honest and to have the utmost good faith in all dealings in the course of legal practice”.
The NSW Law Society’s council said the conduct was contrary to a solicitor’s duty to not engage in conduct that is likely to be prejudicial, or diminish the public confidence in the administration of justice.
“The solicitor’s dishonest conduct is antithetical to the position of trust and confidence that legal practitioners are placed in,” the council said.
Tohme is one of five to make it onto the NSW register this month.
On 8 August, Evelyn Beaver from Riverstone Legal & Conveyancing Solutions was reprimanded for unsatisfactory professional conduct.
She was found to have failed to transfer client files upon request and was “discourteous” in a failure to respond to correspondence.
The next day, Kadhim Ghadban Alshami from K G Shami & Co Lawyers was reprimanded and ordered to undertake further education for submitting a withdrawal of caveat form without authority.
John Llewellyn Burrell from Burrell Solicitors had a manager appointed for a period of two years, and Brendan James Pigott, who also has his own practice, had a manager appointed for one year.
