Thynne + Macarntey, which has been operating in Queensland for more than 130 years, has expanded its disputes and insolvency group with the appointment of Jos Basson as special counsel.

Basson, who has over 15 years of experience in dispute resolution, specialises in “advising public and private companies, directors and officers, and insolvency practitioners on resolving complex disputes and managing insolvency challenges”.

The Brisbane-based firm also articulated how Basson is also an experienced commercial litigator with “experience advising on corporate and personal insolvency, public examinations, debt recovery, business, partnership and shareholder disputes, corporations law and secured and unsecured recoveries”.

Basson completed a juris doctor at Bond University and then completed an ARITA Advanced Certification at the Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association in 2021.

He previously held the position of solicitor manager and head of CLH Lawyers. He also worked as a senior solicitor and partner at Rostron Carlyle Rojas Lawyers.

Thynne + Macarntey also revealed that Basson is a “member of the Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association and Australian Institute of Credit Management (AICM)”.

Excited about his new position, Basson conveyed his enthusiasm for joining Thynne + Macartnery and contributing to the firm’s legal services for its esteemed clientele.

“It is an exciting time to be joining Thynne + Macartney. Working closely with clients of the firm to meet the current economic challenges and helping them to not only survive but thrive during times of constraints is a key strength of the team,” Basson said.

Marc Maskell, the chairman of partners and disputes and insolvency group leader for Thynne + Macartney, articulated that Basson’s appointment demonstrates the firm’s commitment to expanding its disputes capability.

“Jos’ appointment enhances our firm’s disputes capability and expands our corporate and personal insolvency and debt recovery practice,” Maskell said.

“The firm is seeing a steady increase in clients seeking insolvency, debt recovery and dispute advice, particularly from directors of small- to medium-sized businesses. Jos’ in-house and firm experience is well placed to provide clear and strategic guidance to SME clients and industry professionals.”
