Sydney and Melbourne-based law firm FCW Lawyers has appointed David McKenzie as the special counsel for the firm’s property law practice group.

The workplace relations and commercial firm noted that McKenzie is a LIV-accredited property law specialist and an “expert” in disputes over easements, adverse possession, retail leases, building disputes, and negotiating with insurers.

The SME law firm also underscored how McKenzie also frequently advocates for clients in building disputes before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, the Victorian Building Authority, and various other courts.

McKenzie completed a juris doctor at the University of Melbourne and then graduated from the Australian National University with a graduate diploma in legal practice.

He previously served as a barrister and solicitor for the commercial law firm Septimus Jones & Lee Solicitors, a solicitor at the Melbourne-based law firm Pearce Webster Dugdales, a principal for David K McKenzie Lawyers, and then a principal at property law practice LMG Lawyers.

FCW Lawyers also noted that McKenzie is a “very active” member of the Law Institute of Victoria, currently chairing the Owners Corporation Working Group, and is the immediate past chair of the property and environmental law section and building and construction committee and a member of the property law committee.

As a co-author of the LIV Off the Plan contract and a contributor to the revision of the LIV Contract of Sale, McKenzie is also an active presenter at the Australian Institute of Conveyancers, Legalwise, and the Television Education Network, in addition to serving as an educator at the Leo Cussen Centre for Law.

The Sydney and Melbourne-based law firm also said McKenzie is “passionate about the growing area of the integration of property law, owners corporation law, and building law as applied to so many defective apartment buildings in Victoria”.

The managing partner at FCW Lawyers, Andrew Douglas, expressed his enthusiasm for McKenzie’s appointment to the firm, emphasising that McKenzie’s extensive expertise will elevate the team’s capabilities and expand its services.

“We are excited to welcome David to our team. His expertise and proven track record will be a great addition to our property team and expands the services we can provide our clients,” Douglas said.
