The firm has brought on aviation specialist Nick Humphrey as a partner and Rhyley Griffith as a senior associate. Both are set to be based in a soon-to-be-confirmed Middle East office.

Mr Humphrey was previously a partner at Norton White before leaving the practice in 2010 to work in the Middle East.

Throughout his career, he’s worked both in-house and in private practice, gaining extensive experience advising in the aviation, logistics and defence sectors worldwide.

Meanwhile, Mr Griffith specialises in aviation and transport commercial and liability claims, dispute resolution, regulatory and commercial law.

Mr Humphrey’s new role will see him work closely with the firm’s Oceania teams and lead Norton White’s aviation, transport and trade practice in the Middle East, Africa and central Asia. Mr Griffith will support the growth of the aviation practice across the region.

Norton White senior partner Ben Martin said the appointments come at a critical juncture, with the firm looking to expand its aviation capability and cement its commitment as a global leader in transport law.

“Norton White has forged a global reputation for pragmatic solutions and specialised expertise across the complex aviation, logistics and maritime industries,” he said.

“We proudly attribute that to our teams — renowned lawyers with exceptional depth of knowledge, working alongside rising stars of the legal profession. We are very pleased to welcome Nick back to the partnership after 13 years in the Middle East and to welcome Rhyley as a Middle East-based lawyer.

“Norton White has been providing global legal services for some time; however, these appointments signal a new chapter for our firm. We have always been seen as a bit of a pocket battleship in the global transport and logistics legal fields, as we ‘punch above our weight’, providing a level of knowledge and experience that is ordinarily only found in the large global firms.”
