The firm’s directors and partners now include Amanda Little, Rosemary Aloisio and Bernadette Melhem, who, according to the firm, are all focused on promoting gender equality and parity in the law. The trio are also all accredited specialists in family law.

Amanda Little, managing director of Amanda Little & Associates, said that the firm is “deeply invested in ensuring that our staff enjoy fulfilling careers and can advance into leadership roles regardless of their gender”.

The Western Sydney firm is attempting to address systemic and structural barriers that prevent people from advancing in the legal profession, too.

“Historically, becoming a parent or having something unexpected arise in your personal life has precluded people from advancing in the law. We want to change all of that”, Ms Little added.

“Our firm provides employees with flexible working arrangements, ongoing training, salaries which are uniform across the board (regardless of gender) and a work/life balance that helps them manage their work and life commitments.

“By putting these measures in place, we hope to attract and keep good staff, better reflect the clients in which we serve and make a lasting impact in the family law space and the profession at large.”

Moreover, Ms Little said she hoped other firms feel inspired to join this movement.

“Changing the culture of the legal profession starts from within our own practices. At the end of the day, law firms that look after their people will always come out on top,” she said.
