mattero, Support for Lawyers to host R U OK? Day webinar
Legal tech provider mattero and online counselling platform Support for Lawyers are teaming up to host a free webinar to discuss pertinent mental health issues plaguing legal professionals on this year’s R U OK? Day.
mattero — a legal software for sole practitioners, start-ups, in-house legal teams and barristers — is joining forces with Support for Lawyers, which provides private and confidential online counselling by experienced psychologists and counsellors, to host a free lunchtime webinar on Thursday, 8 September, this year’s R U OK? Day.
The movement’s work, the pair said, “focuses on building the motivation, confidence and skills of the help-giver — the person who can have a meaningful conversation with someone who is struggling with life”.
“They aim to break the stigma around mental health and help people experiencing challenges to build support networks,” the pair said.
Lawyers are, of course, in the high-risk category for mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, sleeplessness, panic disorders and burnout.
Both mattero and Support for Lawyers recognise that lawyers will commonly feel daunted by the prospect of asking someone, “R U OK?”, and as such, the organisations will discuss, during the webinar, how best to approach the all-important conversation — including how to respond if and when someone responds noting that they are not, in fact, OK.
The webinar will also cover the risk factors and warning signs for legal professionals, approaching the conversation in an empathetic way, how lawyers can find support if they are experiencing mental health challenges, and simple and healthy coping strategies for lawyers to support their mental health.
Lawyers interested in joining the webinar can register here.
