Human Rights Law Centre executive director moves to Yoorrook Justice Commission
It has been announced that Hugh de Kretser, current executive director of the Human Rights Law Centre, will move from the organisation to take up a new role as chief executive at the Yoorrook Justice Commission in Victoria.
The Yoorrrook Justice Commission is the first formal truth-telling process into injustices experienced by First Peoples in Victoria. Yoorrook will look into both past and ongoing injustices experienced by traditional owners and First Peoples in Victoria in all areas of society.
Mr de Kretser joined the Human Rights Law Centre team in 2013. He has been a board member since 2006 and has also held a number of government and non-governmental appointments.
He has worked extensively in human rights, specifically in the area of LGBTI reforms, abortion law reform, civil liberties, refugee rights, child rights, indigenous law reform and the potential Bill of Rights in Australia.
Commenting on the departure of Mr de Kretser, the Human Rights Law Centre said: “The Human Rights Law Centre has had the benefit of Hugh’s extensive knowledge, passion, ambition and expertise for nine years.
“He has made a wonderful contribution and we are enormously grateful. He leaves behind a proud legacy of achievement and an organisation in great shape, ready to go from strength to strength progressing our human rights agenda”.
