Newly appointed partner Marcus Walkom will oversee the new Fortitude Valley-based office, which is situated close to the entertainment precinct and the location of Bigsound, the southern hemisphere’s biggest music industry gathering.

On the expansion into Brisbane, Media Arts Lawyers said it was an “obvious next choice” for the firm and to establish a physical presence and provide another “perfect location” to service Queensland and northern NSW more widely.

On the new role, Mr Walkom said: “I’m incredibly excited by the opportunity of opening the office and thankful for the support and guidance of the other partners David Vodicka, Stephen King, Julian Hewitt, Yasmin Naghavi and Rob Glass.”

Mr Walkom added that Brisbane has, until recently, been overshadowed by Sydney and Melbourne. With the growing recognition of the city’s creative and cultural hub, he said it “made sense for the firm” to continue its growth in the new location.

With Mr Walkom’s appointment, the firm now has six partners and 14 lawyers.

“I look forward to servicing the vibrant music, entertainment and creative industries throughout Queensland and northern NSW as the region continues its evolution into a globally recognised home of the arts,” Mr Walkom commented.
