The Women Lawyers Association of Queensland has promoted vice-president Olivia Perkiss to director of the Australian Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) after the resignation of former director and barrister Tracy Fantin.
In her new role on the board, Perkiss will represent women in the Queensland legal profession for all Australian Women Lawyers’ matters. Perkiss is also the president of Women in Insurance in Queensland.
“I am honoured to take over my new role as director of [AWLA] and thank all members of the Women Lawyers Association Queensland for their support,” Perkiss said.
“I am looking forward to representing women lawyers in Queensland on issues including paid maternity leave, and discrimination and harassment in the legal workplace.”
Founded in 1997, the AWLA works to eliminate both direct and indirect discrimination against women in the legal system, and the administration of justice so that the legal system is more responsive to women’s needs.
