Barry.Nilsson. is expanding its family law practice into Perth, following a “particularly strong finish to the financial year”, the firm said. In the past year, the firm has grown its national presence to 32 principals and over 300 employees.

Speaking about the new office, Barry.Nilsson chairman Rhett Kennedy said that the decision to launch the Perth-based family law practice was “yet another exciting step” in the firm’s national expansion plan, bringing the total number of family law offices to four.

“This is an important expansion for Barry.Nilsson. that will allow us to bring our highly regarded family law expertise to clients in Western Australia,” he said.

“Our insurance practice opened in Perth in 2017 and quickly established an outstanding reputation for hard work, dedication, and thought leadership. We are delighted to build on this experience and extend our client service offering to include family law.”

Peter Milevski, who helped open the firm’s Sydney-based family practice three years ago, will lead the move to Western Australia. Melanie Rubin, who joined the Barry.Nilsson. family practice in 2020, will lead the continuing growth of the family law offering in Sydney.

Currently, the firm offers family law services in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney and also has offices in Adelaide and Hobart.

“Our ongoing success is a reflection of the high quality of our legal expertise and recognised corporate culture of client-focused service,” said Mr Kennedy.

The news follows fellow national firms Piper Alderman and McCabe Curwood expanding into Western Australia in June 2021 and June 2020 respectively, and global firm Kennedys opening an office in Perth in May of this year.
